Committee Information

Administration and Personnel

Description:

To provide for an orderly, focused and considerate means for the Session to build a healthy work environment, and to define and oversee the administration of the policies of the church.

Finance Committee

Description:

  • Propose the annual budget to the Session
  • Establish prudent financial procedures and controls
  • Oversee the management of church finances
  • Work with other committees to provide for near and long term capital needs
  • Initiate yearly audit

Fellowship

Description:

This committee coordinates activities where members of Bethel Presbyterian Church and friends can get together to know each other. The overall goal of the Fellowship Committee is to help members and friends of Bethel Church develop a sense of community so that other committees can garner the strength to accomplish the mission of the church.

Property

Description:

The Property Committee insures that the buildings and grounds are maintained – both in appearance and in repair, and insures that the church is properly secured and cleaned. The Committee is responsible to see that the Session’s will regarding the use of church buildings and associated properties is implemented and enforced.

Planning / Communications

Description:

The Planning Committee will be responsible for coordinating a yearly plan for Bethel, with input from each of the standing committees, Staff, the Diaconate, and volunteers. The annual plan will outline major goals and objectives for the church and will be reviewed and approved by the Session. This committee will be responsible for the planning and execution of communications between Session, Diaconate, and the congregation of Bethel. In the 2012 year, the Planning Committee will define and develop a Communications Committee that will become free standing committee the following year and will enlarge the scope of the Communications for which it is responsible. The Planning committee will also deal with items assigned to it by the Session.

Christian Education / Child Care / Youth

Description:

Basic areas of responsibility include anything which deals with the education aspect of the life of the congregation.

Stewardship

Description:

The Stewardship Committee is charged with assisting the congregation, individually and corporately, to fulfill its responsibility for the management of all God has given us. As God’s steward we own nothing, yet we are responsible for caring for all of God’s abundant blessings. The Stewardship Committee is a Sessional Committee that provides information on how Bethel and its members use and/or can use time, talents and financial blessings to carry out our church’s mission and ministries.

Mission

Description:

The purpose of the Mission Committee is to involve Bethel Presbyterian Church members in mission ministries which are both local and international. Involvement will consist of not only educational understanding and financial support but actively participating in mission service using the time and talents of individuals.

Worship

Description:

The first and foremost role of the Worship Committee is to set policies related to the worship activities of the church and to help insure that the policies are observed. Worship should conform to the guidelines specified in the Book of Order.

The Worship Committee is responsible for making provisions for regular services, sharing the Word, celebrating the Sacraments, joining in prayer and worshipping through music. Including in this responsibility are such things as preparing for the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, providing the water for baptism, etc. Any proposed major shift in Worship should come through the Worship Committee and be approved by the Session. The Committee should always offer feedback to the Worship leaders on the effectiveness of various elements of the service.

Witness

Description:

The purpose of the Witness Committee is to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ by reaching out into our Community and inviting local residents to participate with us in growing in the body of Christ. Witness Committee will address new member assimilation, congregational care, issues of evangelism and the visitation program.
